Archive for August, 2004

Questions answered

Lot’s of good questions came from the decision process about our Europe trip, but surely we can overcome all of these.

The planning started August 2004, firstly I needed a fill in job, can’t go on enjoying my new house hubby status too long. This was solved very quickly, thanks to good friends. A good paying contract job for 5 months with the chance of an extension, fantastic, one problem solved. Should be able to save some extra money as well.

The house was next, do we rent or leave empty? No need to discuss the pros and cons of each of these options. Well, oldest son is planning to build new home soon, so this may be good opportunity for everyone, free rent for 6 months, dog stays in familiar surroundings, house is occupied and looked after.

Not so quick review of finances and discussion with financial specialist confirmed we can do this, without too much heartache for our future.

Great can’t wait to go!!

A decision to be made

Like all good middle aged couples we had a plan that was to be put into place in about 5 – 7 years time. Travel Australia in a comfortable sized caravan.

With both Maggie and I working for large global company’s you learn to be able to adapt to changes and challenges that are thrust upon you, well we were tested in mid 2004. The decision wasn’t all that hard really, what’s stopping us from bringing our planned trip around Australia forward a few years. Absolutely nothing!!

After lots of emotion, discussion and planning it was decided to commence our semi retirement with a 6 month holiday. 5 Months in Europe and 1 Month in U.S.A. sounded like a good plan. Lots of things to think about. What about the house? What about the big fluffy dog? How much can we spend? When can we go? Where exactly would we like to go?

The adventure starts……………………………………….
