We carried out a lot of research on the best way to get around in both U.K. and Europe, we looked at hire cars / campervans, lease cars, buying a car or campervan, all choices have good and bad points but we decided to hire a car in U.K. and for Europe the best choice for us was a lease / buyback deal with a Citroen C4 diesel. Having the car in Europe for 91 days made this choice the most economical one and you get a new car with insurance and 24 hr roadside assistance. Our son had done something similar some 2 years ago and it work out very well for him.
Everything seems to be working out well for our European leg of the trip.
