Our truck has been sick! We were heading out to Noosa to meet friends for lunch, but only got as far as the other side of Gympie when David (and me too, believe it or not) felt something was wrong with the truck. David thought it felt like a flat tyre, but when he checked they were all fine. So we went another little bit down the road, but it still felt funny so we pulled into a truck area and David got out and checked underneath, and under the bonnet. We’ve had a lot of rain up here, so David thought it might be a fuel issue, and drained the fuel filter. Apart from that he couldn’t see anything obvious, but he wasn’t happy when he got back in the truck. Anyway, we only got another 200m or so down the road when the truck just stopped! Just as we got into the passing lane to the left of a right hand turn lane into a rest stop. On the busy Bruce Highway. And we couldn’t go anywhere 
David figured it was something to do with the fuel pump so he popped the bonnet and got back under the truck. Meanwhile, I’m having palpitations sitting in my seat watching the traffic coming up behind us in the sun visor mirror, having visions of someone doing a right hand turn into the rest area, and an idiot not watching and pulling out into the left hand pass area and driving right up our arse! God knows what I thought I could do by watching it in the mirror except scare myself stupid. Scary stuff! Lots of traffic and big trucks on that highway
The end result of David’s investigation? The fuel pump had gone, so the decision was made to call a tow truck. Luckily we got onto a guy through the dealership where we bought the van, and the tow truck operator was there in 15 minutes and took us to the local Ford dealer in town. Despite David telling them, it took a couple of days for them to work out what the problem was, but they eventually got it and ordered a replacement part. The end result – about $1400 out of pocket expenses for a hire car and a new fuel pump, and 5 days without our truck.
But she’s all fixed now and back home with us
